Poetry Matters

Status:Active, open to new members
When: On Monday afternoons
We meet on the last Monday of the month usually at 1.30 until 3.30 pm but may meet at 10.30 am until 12.30 pm depending on the availability of our venue.
Venue: Meeting Room Royal Shakespeare Theatre

The aim of this exciting new group is to explore the fabulously rich tradition of poetry in this country and further afield - poetry that distils experience, delights, moves us and even changes the way we think about ourselves and the world. The group develops its appreciation of this wealth by coming together to read and share our responses to some carefully selected poems on a chosen topic or theme for each session.

To facilitate meaningful discussion the poems are shared in advance of each session and each session is a stand-alone so participants can opt in and out as they wish. As well, the group continually reviews the way it works to ensure it best meets the wishes of its members.

The group welcomes new members. All u3a members are invited to drop in by prior arrangement to try out the group. Anyone with an enthusiasm for poetry, or who would like their interest kindled, will be welcome regardless of previous knowledge or experience.

We usually meet in the Welcome Space at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre but may meet in an alternative town centre venue if the RST room is not available.
